Coinbase Global Inc announced on December 18, 2025, that the platform will expand its product offerings to include trading of traditional equities and event contracts linked to real-world outcomes. The move is part of a strategic partnership with Kalshi, a US Commodity Futures Trading Commission-regulated prediction market platform.
The new stock trading service will initially cover major US companies, offering round-the-clock access once tokenisation infrastructure is fully implemented. In addition, event contracts will permit users to speculate on outcomes ranging from election results to economic indicators, broadening retail participation in diverse assets under one platform.
Analysts at Citizens Financial projected that prediction markets could generate up to US$2 billion in revenue by 2030, with institutional adoption representing a significant growth driver. Coinbase anticipates that cross-selling these products to its existing user base will enhance user engagement and overall lifetime value.
Max Branzburg, head of consumer and business products at Coinbase, stated that the goal is to “offer the greatest variety of contracts available on one platform,” reinforcing the company’s ambition to become an all-in-one trading hub.
Regulatory considerations remain at the forefront, as state authorities in some jurisdictions debate classification of event contracts as betting. Coinbase maintains that these contracts fall exclusively under federal oversight by the CFTC, and is prepared to engage with regulators to ensure compliance and consumer protection.
Looking forward, Coinbase will roll out tokenised equity offerings, enabling continuous, 24/7 trading of share-linked tokens. This initiative aligns with broader industry trends toward on-chain representation of traditional assets and reflects growing demand for fractional ownership opportunities.
The expansion into non-crypto markets follows heightened competition among digital asset platforms and traditional brokerages. By diversifying into equities and prediction markets, Coinbase seeks to mitigate volatility risks inherent in crypto trading and capture a larger share of global retail trading volume.
