Wellgistics Health Inc., a Nasdaq-listed pharmaceutical distributor, has deployed a payment solution built on the open-source XRP Ledger to streamline funds transfers for 6,500 independent pharmacies and 200 manufacturers across the United States. The rollout allows participants to initiate and settle invoice payments in near real-time, bypassing traditional banking delays and high transaction fees.
The platform integrates with RxERP, Wellgistics’ serialized e-commerce and enterprise resource planning system, providing secure tracking of inventory orders and direct settlement between pharmacies and the distributor. Pharmacies enrolling in the beta program can opt to convert fiat to XRP for on-chain settlement or settle in U.S. dollars while leveraging the ledger’s speed and cost efficiency.
Compliance with HIPAA regulations and anti-money laundering requirements has been built into the system’s architecture, ensuring that patient data and financial transactions meet stringent industry standards. Wellgistics has indicated plans to extend the payment solution to drug manufacturers and pilot direct-to-patient delivery models, enabling prescriptions to be shipped from production facilities to patients under physician oversight.
In a related June announcement, the company secured a $50 million equity line of credit to support programmable liquidity infrastructure and disclosed intentions to hold XRP as a treasury reserve asset. This dual approach positions Wellgistics as both a user of the blockchain for operational transactions and a strategic investor in the digital token, reflecting confidence in the ledger’s utility beyond payments.
Since its spin-off in February 2025, Wellgistics Health’s shares have faced market volatility, yet the adoption of blockchain technology for core financial workflows marks a significant step in the mainstream integration of digital assets within healthcare finance. Observers view the initiative as a case study for enterprise-grade blockchain applications, potentially influencing other sectors to explore on-chain settlements for recurring B2B payments.
